Christine Vaillancourt lives and paints in the Artist Building, Fort Point, Boston. She taught art for many years in Newton Public Schools, Massachusetts and Middletown Public Schools, Rhode Island.

Vaillancourt’s imagery has transitioned over the years from more orthogonal patterns, to larger kinetic shapes, reminiscent of architectural or mechanical forms and industrial design. By manipulating acrylic polymer mediums she creates a surface similar to encaustics.

Inspiration comes from geometric graphics, patterns and design from Vaillancourt’s memories of growing up in a Modernist home during the 1950s. The home, art, and furnishings were influenced by the modern art movements between WWI and WWII, which include Bauhaus and Concrete Art that both draw inspiration from Russian Suprematism founded in 1915.

Vaillancourt was commissioned in 2018 by the MBTA to create large-scale glass art for the outdoor elevator for the new Ball Square Station, Somerville, MA, expected to be installed in 2021.

Christine Vaillancourt is represented by Andrea Schwartz Gallery in San Francisco, Dean Day Gallery in Houston, and Nikola Rukaj Gallery in Toronto.

Vaillancourt received her BAE from UNC at Chapel Hill and MAE from Rhode Island School of Design with continuing education at School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and Kent State University, Ohio.
