Jen Mecca

I love color – I soak fabrics in it. Crafting old narratives into new silken stories. My fiber work ranges from traditional shibori techniques to incorporation of unexpected materials. Recycled clothing fibers – used garments that are shredded and reduced to basic elements for rag manufacture – contrast with materials such as silk, rubber and wool to create new wearable art. I often use the kimono as a starting point, reinterpreting classic themes and visual language using modern forms and unique materials. Iconic clothing structure is transformed as the memory of old surfaces live within the new.
