Lisa Murphy
Lisa Murphy was born and raised in Boston Massachusetts. Her love of art began when she attended art club at Boston Latin Academy. Lisa graduated from Boston Latin Academy and Emmanuel College. She has attended years of Open Artist Studio sessions at Boston University Recovery Education Program, where she works side by side with other artists. Miss Murphy completed the Artist’s Training Program at Gateway Arts. She has also participated in an Artists Open Studio group sponsored by partners Lesley University and NAMI.
Lisa is a black, gay woman, living with depression and anxiety. She has found that art making is a fuel for her pathway to recovery. In her paintings, she uses acrylics, collage, and Morse code as a visual, auditory, and tactile communication tool. She employs transfers, line work and stenciling to define figures that speak to her identity. Lisa continues to experiment with mediums and processes as she discovers them.
