Tomas Swift
“I am a freelance fine artist living in Boston, MA. Although I presently pay the bills selling my soul bit by bit to the world of corporate IT, I am never far from my pens, inks, and flights of macabre fancy.”
As soon as I was able to clench a pencil in my meaty little 3-year-old fist I would regularly fill pages of construction paper with the monsters and beasties I shared my imagination with. I knew this process would become essential to my happiness and help me deal with the real world as I grew up. The creatures that emerge from my pen are my way of airing my emotions. My inner demons are cathartically born on the canvas. My paintings and drawings deal with themes of hunger and longing, fear and despair, solitude and revenge. I believe that everyone sees themselves as a monster from time to time, not in control of our baser emotions, our animal instincts. I try to make peace with the uncontrollable through my work. I find my inspiration in rusty, derelict buildings and forgotten houses in the woods mostly reclaimed by nature. My imagination’s dystopia finds its foothold through my art. What spawns from my mind is this: we live a dangerous world, and monsters may be closer than you think.”
